1 New Jersey- John Wall G Kentucky
Wall will be the prize the Nets receive after their terrible season. I see Wall as a mix of Rajon Rondo and Derrick Rose. He can get to the rim a lot, however his perimeter jump shot is a struggle at time. It will be interesting to see how he fares at the next level with pros who can keep up with his speed and going in transition with the pros.
2 Minnesota – Evan Turner G Ohio State
Mr do it all will be drafted by the team who has their pin pong ball selected 2nd. This may be the best pick to have as you have no tough decision, take whoever is left between Wall and Turner. Turner is a stat stuffer and can play anywhere from pg,sg, or sf at the next level.
3 Sacramento – Derrick Favors F Georgia Tech
The kings pick up this stud who has a lot of size and potential. He is coming out after just one season with the Yellow Jackets, he is very talented and should contribute right away with this young Kings team.
4 Golden State – DeMarcus Cousins F Kentucky
The Warriors get possibly the most talented big man in this draft. He needs some growing up to do as he showed signs of immaturity during his days at Kentucky. He has all the physical tools to be a successful pro.
5 Washington – Al-Farouq Aminu F Wake Forest
Aminu returned to Wake for a 2nd season and greatly improved his draft stock. He showed he can score in many ways, at times showed he could take over games and also showed the ability to both rebound and block shots.
6 Philadelphia – Greg Monroe – F/C Georgetown
Is it possible the best passer in the draft is a big man? Monroe has great floor vision and is very unselfish as he showed in his 2 years at Georgetown. He showed he could take over a game without being the main guy scoring the points.
7 Detroit – Wesley Johnson – F Syracuse
Johnson had a solid year at Syracuse after transferring from Iowa State. He won Big East player of the year as he showed he was a solid rebounder and could put the ball in the hoop. He was very active in the 2-3 zone he played in college, and showed he is very athletic.
8 LA Clippers – Cole Aldrich – C Kansas
You cant teach height, and that’s what Aldrich has. He should contribute right away on the defensive side of the ball. Scoring at the next level may pose a challenge for him. He should see minutes right away though.
9 Utah (from NY) – Ed Davis – F North Carolina
A disappointing 2nd year will not kill all of this kids draft status. He still has a ton of potential, a long wingspan and all the ability in the world. He may need to bulk up to play down low with the big boys, as he will surely be given the opportunity at the next level.
10 Indiana – Patrick Patterson – F Kentucky
Mark him as the 3rd Kentucky player selected in the lottery. Patterson can do quite a bit, he can score both in the paint and from the perimeter. He was kind of the lost man at Kentucky with Cousins and Wall getting all the hype, he is clearly still very productive.
11 New Orleans – James Anderson – G Oklahoma State
May be the most pure scorer in this draft. He hs the potential to put up 30 points on any given night. This all american should get the green light to shoot wherever he may land in the draft.
12 Memphis Epke Udoh – PF Baylor
A very good defensive player started to show some promise on the offensive end. He can be a pest in the paint as he blocks many shots. Needs to put on a little weight, not a huge project but could use a little fine tuning.
13 Toronto Hassan Whiteside – C Marshall
Like I said with Cole Aldrich, you cant teach height. Whiteside may be a wildcard as nobody really knows what to expect. He was rarely on TV as he played for Marshall, however he led the nation in blocks and showed he can play. His defense may be close to the pro level, the offense is not to that level yet.
14 Houston Xavier Henry – G Kansas
Henry decided one year at Kansas was enough, and could be the best pro out of the guys on that dominant team. He has the size for the NBA and a sweet stroke from the outside. Was sort of lost in the shuffle with Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich as his teammates, he will be the first of those guys to make an All star game. Huge potential with this kid.
